El Castillo de Heidelberg está edificado sobre una fortaleza medieval en lo alto de Heidelberg. Durante cinco siglos, esta fue la residencia de los Príncipes Electores del Palatinado pertenecientes a la estirpe de los Wittelsbach. En este período de tiempo el castillo fue casi destruido en varias ocasiones. Las ruinas se convirtieron en el símbolo de toda una época, el Romanticismo Alemán. The palace buildings with the greatest artistic importance were built during the Renaissance. Since the 19th century Heidelberg has been famous the world over for the romantic appearance of its palace ruins and attracts hundreds of thousands of visitors every year.
